Lessons Overview

At HCM Music Academy, our drum lessons are open to everyone, from ages 6 to 70 and beyond! Whether you’re picking up sticks for the first time or refining your existing skills, we offer the perfect environment to grow as a drummer.

Our weekly drum lessons are available in both group and one-to-one settings, giving you the flexibility to learn at your own pace. Choose from 30, 45, or 60-minute sessions—ample time to get comfortable behind the kit and build your skills.

Adult lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis only, whereas children’s drum lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis as well as in groups.

One-to-one lessons mean that the student has the tutor’s undivided attention however, group lessons offer advantages such as social interaction, collaborative learning and peer support as well as being cost-effective! All of our groups are organised by age and ability and take place on industry-standard electric drum kits in groups of up to four students.

    What You'll Learn

Our drum lessons cover a variety of musical styles, from rock and pop to jazz, blues, Latin, and country. You’ll learn using both acoustic and state-of-the-art electronic drum kits, with lessons tailored to your level, interests and personal goals.

    End of Term Gigs

In addition to lessons, HCM drum students are invited to participate in our end-of-term gigs and showcases. These events offer invaluable experience performing live in front of an audience, helping students build confidence and stage presence, as well as being a great opportunity for friends and family to see the progress made throughout term.

    Exams and Awards

We’re dedicated to helping our students progress and provide tuition for graded exams through RSL, Trinity, and ABRSM. As an official exam centre for Trinity and RSL, our students benefit from taking their exams in a familiar environment, which can help reduce anxiety and boost confidence. You can choose to follow a structured syllabus or just play for enjoyment—it’s entirely your choice! For teenage students, drum lessons can enhance activities such as GCSE Music or the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
