Music Lessons

Whether you’ve just picked up a guitar, or have been playing for years, our acoustic and electric guitar lessons will have you improving your technique in no time.

Lessons Overview

If you’ve always wanted to learn guitar but weren’t sure where to start, HCM’s guitar lessons could be just what you’re looking for. Our weekly lessons are open to students aged 6 and up, including adults, with flexible lesson lengths of 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

Whether you prefer group sessions or one-on-one tuition, want to learn acoustic or electric guitar, we’ve got you covered. Even experienced guitarists can benefit from our lessons, refining techniques and learning new skills to take their playing to the next level.

Students are encouraged to bring their own guitars however we also have plenty on site which students can borrow if they don’t yet have an instrument.

Adult guitar lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis only, whereas children’s guitar lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis as well as in groups.

One-to-one lessons mean that the student has the tutor’s undivided attention however, group lessons offer advantages such as social interaction, collaborative learning and peer support as well as being cost-effective! All of our groups are organised by age and ability with a maximum of four students per group.

    What You'll Learn

Our guitar lessons at HCM are tailored to your individual goals and can cover a wide range of styles and genres. Whether you’re into classical, folk, and pop for acoustic guitar, or rock, indie, and heavy metal for electric guitar, we’ve got something for everyone. Lessons are customised based on your level, and personal or group objectives.

    End of Term Gigs

In addition to lessons, HCM guitar students are invited to participate in our end-of-term gigs and showcases. These events offer invaluable experience performing live in front of an audience, helping students build confidence and stage presence, as well as being a great opportunity for friends and family to see the progress made throughout term.

    Exams and Awards

At HCM, we encourage students to take graded instrument exams as they provide a structured way to measure progress. Our tutors are experienced in preparing students for RSL, Trinity, and ABRSM exams from beginner to Grade 8. These exams not only track improvement but also help students develop poise in performance—a skill that carries over into many areas of life. For teenage students, guitar lessons can complement activities like GCSE Music or Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes.

As an official exam centre for both Trinity and RSL, we provide our students the opportunity to take their graded guitar exams on-site, in a familiar and welcoming setting.
