Music Theory Lessons

Music Lessons

HCM Music Academy’s music theory lessons unlock the 'grammar' of music for students aged 7 and up. Our one-on-one sessions help you master chords, notation, and musical creativity, enhancing your overall musicianship.

Lessons Overview

Music theory has been called the ‘grammar’ of music, and our lessons teach you all you need to know to understand and speak this melodic language.

HCM music theory lessons are a great extension to HCM’s instrument lessons and are open to children and adults from 7 and up. Sessions take place each week at HCM Music Academy and are held on a one-to-one basis, in either 30, 45 or 60-minute slots – the choice is yours.

    What You'll Learn

Music theory is not just learning how to build chords, recognise intervals and understand key signatures. Every single concept in music theory is an idea or foundation for learning how to express your thoughts with sound and music. HCM music theory lessons see you study a range of interlocking skills, including notation, listening, musical perception, creativity and much more. Classes will be uniquely designed to cater for your particular interests and skill level.

    Exams and Awards

We’re dedicated to helping our students progress and provide tuition for graded exams through RSL, Trinity, and ABRSM. As an official exam centre for Trinity and RSL, our students benefit from taking their exams in a familiar environment, which can help reduce anxiety and boost confidence. You can choose to follow a structured syllabus or just learn for enjoyment—it’s entirely your choice!
