    What You'll Learn

In our vocal lessons, we blend traditional vocal education techniques to enhance your vocal skills. You’ll explore a wide variety of songs, delve into your head and chest voice, and cover topics such as expression, harmony, and breathing techniques. Each week’s lesson is designed to engage you and adapt to your personal interests and experience level.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn at HCM’s vocal lessons:

    • Vocal technique
    • Vocal health
    • Styles and genre-specific vocals
    • Expression
    • Performance practice
    • Warm-up techniques
    • Harmony and backing vocal techniques
    • Strategies for managing nerves and performance anxiety
    • Embedded music theory and knowledge

And, of course, you’ll work on songs specifically chosen to help you explore and apply the vocal techniques you’re learning.

    End of Term Gigs

In addition to your weekly lessons, HCM vocal students are invited to participate in our end-of-term gigs and showcases. These events offer invaluable experience performing live in front of an audience, helping students build confidence and stage presence, as well as being a great opportunity for friends and family to see the progress made throughout term.

    Exams and Awards

At HCM, we encourage students to take graded instrument exams as they provide a structured way to measure progress. Our tutors are experienced in preparing students for RSL, Trinity, and ABRSM exams from beginner to Grade 8. These exams not only track improvement but also help students develop poise in performance—a skill that carries over into many areas of life. For teenage students, vocal lessons can complement activities like GCSE Music or Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes.

As an official exam centre for both Trinity and RSL, we provide our students the opportunity to take their graded vocal exams on-site, in a familiar and welcoming setting.
