Chris Hanby is a seasoned guitarist, bassist, educator, and performer with over 30 years of experience in both live performance and teaching. An alumnus of The Guitar Institute and Basstech, Chris began his teaching career in 2003 and has since taught at several esteemed institutions. After offering private lessons, he worked as a lecturer at West Kent College and later joined the acclaimed ACM Guildford, where he not only taught but contributed to the development of course materials. He also served as a demonstrator for Rockschool grade exams.

 

As a performer, Chris has appeared on prominent TV shows like Later with Jools Holland, Top of the Pops, and MTV, and played at major festivals such as Glastonbury. His live performances have also included radio sessions for the BBC including featured performances on the Tom Robinson and Zane Lowe shows. Chris has had the privilege of touring globally, supporting acts like Jamiroquai, Sting, Joss Stone, and Simple Minds. His diverse recording career includes collaborations with artists Ian Shaw, Acantha Lang, Siobhan Donaghy (Sugababes), and Mattafix, showcasing his versatility across genres.

 

Today, Chris continues to inspire and teach the next generation of guitarists, drawing on his extensive experience in education and the music industry. His passion for music and dedication to his students have made him a respected figure in the community, ensuring his status as a sought-after educator and performer.
