Kevin Hall
Kevin began formal piano lessons at the age of 7, achieving his ABRSM Grade 8 on piano before being called “to the road.” A true multi-instrumentalist, Kevin plays keyboards, accordion, and synthesizers, boasting an impressive collection of 27 instruments, including three keytars. His musical talents extend further to percussion, bodhrán, double bass, bass guitar, and cello, all complemented by his vocal range from B-flat3 to E-flat5 (hitting the top note on Queen’s “Somebody to Love”). Currently, Kevin is expanding his musical repertoire by learning to play the saxophone.
With a strong foundation in both music theory and “ear” knowledge, Kevin often acts as a bridge between classical musicians (who focus on bar numbers) and groove-based musicians (who might say ‘come in on the downbeat to the chorus’). His expertise as a performer, arranger, composer, and lyricist has led to the creation of five albums’ worth of original material, ranging from pop songs to instrumental pieces. In 2011, Kevin collaborated with the late Christine Rosholt to release the album Pazz in Minneapolis, marking the culmination of a three-year original project.
Kevin operates a live studio in Ireland, Shefford, where he can effortlessly bring musical ideas to life, from initial sketches to fully produced tracks. His extensive performance experience includes leading and working with various bands, including managing the West End band “Rollacoaster” (formerly The Johnny Howard Band). His performances have graced prestigious venues in the West End, Monte Carlo, Red Square in Moscow, Dubai, and Marina Bay in Singapore. Kevin has also collaborated with renowned artists like Midge Ure, Cliff Richard, Lee Mead, Tony Hadley, Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Heather Small, Oleta Adams, and Katherine Jenkins.
For the past nine years, Kevin has been one of the resident pianists for The World Residencies, showcasing his versatility across all styles, including classical, jazz, pop, blues, Latin, and Celtic music. Since 2021, Kevin has been sharing his expertise as a tutor at “Beats Learning in Cambridge,” “Intotoed in Fordham,” and through private lessons. Whether preparing students for grades, exams, or courses, or leading songwriting and band workshops, Kevin is passionate about making learning enjoyable. He believes, “Learning should be about enjoyment, not endurance.”
Kevin also offers seminars on various topics, including “The History of Synthpop,” “Beyond the Metronome,” and “ABBA Harmonies and Melodies.” As a dedicated educator, Kevin values the mutual growth that comes from teaching, saying, “The best thing about teaching is that you learn yourself. It improves your own musicianship, keeps you relevant by joining the world of the student, and ultimately fosters a creative partnership.”
